Robert McMichael, 38, of Wildwood, and Scott Hudson, 31, of West Wildwood, were later arrested in connection with the incident that began on the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, Wildwood police said.
McMichael and Hudson assaulted the homeowner before stealing items from the house, police said.
The victim provided police with a description of a van used by the suspects before officer found the van several blocks from the home.
Police tried stopping the van, but ultimately led police on a brief low-speed chase. The vehicle went into floodwaters and hit a stop sign.
McMichael and Hudson got out of the van and tried to run away from police. Officers were able to capture both men.
McMichael and Hudson were charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy to commit burglary, third-degree theft, third-degree eluding, third-degree possession of heroin, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and simple assault.
Hudson was also charged with third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree certain person not to possess a weapon.
McMichael and Hudson were being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center.
